Rodington drive 2022
Rodington drive report.
We decided to go ahead with the Rodington drive on the 11th of September as I don’t believe that as a keen horsewoman herself our late Queen would have wanted us to cancel. However, following the briefing and before we set off, Ted Orgill said a few appropriate words and we held a minute’s silence to remember Her Majesty.
Seven turnouts set off from Ian Griffiths’ farm yard next to the Bull’s Head public house. Mike and Bryony Cowie had as usual travelled all the way from the Wirral to join us as
had Andy Black and Sue. The other single turnouts included Ted Orgill accompanied by Graham and Imran, Jennifer Marren and Helen James and not for forgetting Pauline Traill and Frank. The two pair turnouts were Philip Holder and Julie Tomasik with a pair of greys and Russell and Pat Hand also with a pair of greys put to a rather fine original Peters break. As a mark of respect to her late Majesty black ribbons and ties were in evidence. We were blessed with a pleasant fine day but not too hot for the horses as we set out on the twelve mile drive following the usual route along pleasant country lanes. At the half way stop at the Haughmond pub some members enjoyed light refreshment.
We travelled back through the village of Withington and on return most gathered in the farm yard
for a picnic lunch or went for lunch to the Bulls Head. Thanks to Philip for organising and Ted for his tribute to the Queen and of course to Ian Griffiths tor the use of his farm yard.
